Big Sur Icons

Type & Book Design

Inspired by flip clocks, Orologi is a clean, geometric display font. It emulates the key charactereistics of clocks, such as their elegance, subtlety, straight-forwardness, and timelessness. The medium weight of the digits found on flip-clocks is also reflected in the letterforms, giving it a more uniform appearance.

Icon Design

Summer of 2020 marked the release of the first macOS 11 beta release, which brought about some of the most significant design changes to macOS in years. As an avid Apple fan with a lot of time in my hands, I downloaded the beta on my personal MacBook. I was absolutely in love with the updated app icons on Apple’s app icons, but the contrast between the shiny new icons and the older, not-yet-updated icons proved too jarring and distracting. To remedy this, I went through some of my most often-used icons and updated them myself.

CONCEPT

In macOS 11 we see a new uniformity brought to app icons, the rounded square shape of iOS icons with the naturalistic shadows and textures of older macOS releases. The following are some examples of what the original icons looked like next to their redesign. There are 50 redesigned icons.
