Dunneville

Branding & Logo Design (WALTZ CREATIVE)

Dunneville Cafe has operated from a rural intersection in San Benito County for over 100 years. Famous for its Tri-Tip and Calamari Sandwiches, they wanted a refresh that looked to the future while maintaining the comfort associated with their brand. The rebrand is heavily inspired by classic butcher shops, with the silhouetted forms of cow, pig , and chicken and a red, black and white system.

IDEATION

Before arriving at the final logo, I explored numerous possible directions that attempted to balance the butcher shop aesthetic in a way that felt fresh, yet timeless. The client was presented with three logo directions; one that featured a cow silhouette with the hand lettered name of the business, a mark that nodded at the "Four Corners" where the business is located, and a final option where the ā€œDā€ doubled as a meat cleaver.

LOGO

The final logo was a combination of the first and second logo options, with the typeface used in the second logo replacing the hand-lettering over the cow silhouette. A pig and chicken silhouette were also introduced, allowing for further extension of the brand and additional merchandising opportunities.
