Veterinary Eye Clinic of Monterey Bay

Logo & UI/UX DESIGN (WALTZ CREATIVE)

Veterinary Eye Clinic of Monterey Bay (VECM) is a veterinary ophthalmologist started by Dr. Elizabeth Curto. During my time at Waltz I was tasked with designing a new identity and website for the client. The client wanted a logo that felt professional, safe, empathetic, and approachable. The desired color palette was one that felt calming, and paid homage to the Monterey Bay area.

IDEATION

The client was presented with three logo options, each of them reflecting the qualities they wanted their brand to elicit but with the primary focus on different parts of those qualities. The first option focused on empathy and featured an eye and medical cross, and animals holding hands and forming a “V”. The second option’s emphasis was on approachability, and featured variable typography meant to resemble an eye chart. The final option focused on approachability, with two “V” shapes that form an eye but also resemble people hugging (compassion), and the waves of Monterey Bay. The client chose the third option with minor refinements in the second round.

LOGO

The final logo is comprised of two “V” shapes that form an eye but also resemble people hugging (compassion), and the waves of Monterey Bay. The “V” shapes were widened and softened slightly, giving the mark a more organic and natural form.

WEBSITE

The VECM website is designed with the primary purpose of introducing new and returning patients to Dr. Curto’s services. It also serves as a portal to introduce pet owners to VECM’s staff and the variety of eye conditions they treat. It expands on elements of the logo, such as its color palette and the wave motif introduced in the business card, using them throughout the website.
